According to the latest information, the Panchayati Raj Department has proposed to increase the monthly salary of Bihar Village Court secretaries (gram kachahari secretaries) from ₹6,000 to ₹12,000. The decision is not yet approved yet but there is a very high possibility that it will be approved very soon.
The increase in salary will also benefit technical assistants and IT assistants who get employed on contractual basis.
Who Benefits From the Salary Hike?

- Over 1,600 accountant-cum-IT assistants
- Nearly 1,500 technical assistants
All of these staff members are working under Bihar’s Panchayati Raj system. They received fixed salaries but it was quite low and not in accordance with the increasing workload. That’s why the Panchayati Raj Department has proposed to increase it.
Why the Salary Hike is Needed ?
The Panchayati Raj Department compared the salary structures of other departments and realised that the monthly salary of Bihar Village Court secretaries and their technical staff is not at par with the normal level. They are paid very less when compared to their counterparts in other departments. On the top of that, they were looking after the most critical work of resolving local disputes, managing records and supporting the village level operations.
Considering all these facts, the proposal was made to increase the salary of Bihar Village Court secretaries by 100% and that of other technical posts by 20-30%.
Cabinet Approval Expected Soon
The proposal has already been sent to the Bihar Finance Department for approval. If everything goes smoothly, it will be accepted within the next week. After getting clearance from the cabinet, the new salary structure is expected to be implemented within the next two months.
Previous Increments in Salary Structure
Bihar Village Court secretaries were only paid ₹2,000 when they were first appointed. Later in 2016, a proposal was made to increase the salary. After approval, the salary was increased to ₹6,000. It was a major jump – almost 4 times the previous amount. But, the salary had been same for almost a decade now. Finally, the proposals were sent to increase the salary. This time is will be doubled.
Similar proposals were sent in 2024 also, but they were not approved by the Bihar cabinet. This year, the hike has become necessary and thus it is expected to be cleared soon. Now the workers will get the monthly allowance as per their workload unlike before.
