Key Meeting Finalized the Approval

This decision was made in a high-level which included Mihir Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of Bihar’s Road Construction Department, Navin Gulati, Member (Infrastructure) of the Railway Board, and Chhatrasal Singh, General Manager of East Central Railway.

During the meeting, the Railway Board approved Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for the initial 12 Road Over Bridge locations. This is the first-phase of clearance. In the next stages, we can expect full implementation across all 223 locations.

Approved Locations for the First Phase

The following 12 sites have received immediate approval by the Railway Board :

  1. Saharsa: Gate No. 104B1 (Saharsa Junction to Baijnathpur)
  2. Chhapra: Gate No. 47spl (Chhapra Junction to Chhapra Kachahari)
  3. Sitamarhi: Gate No. 55C/3 (Sitamarhi to Dumra)
  4. Gaya: Gates No. 39/C/T (Paharpur to Gurpa) and 8/C (Paraiya to Guraru)
  5. Lakhisarai: Gates No. 24/A/E (Abhaypur to Masudan) and 27/B/T (Kajra to Abhaypur)
  6. Jamui: Gate No. 36 (Jhajha to Simultala)
  7. Munger: Gate No. 17/A/E (Jamalpur to Dashrathpur)
  8. Aurangabad: Gates No. 28/B and 23/C/T (Fesar and Jakhim to Baghoi Kusa)
  9. Muzaffarpur: Gate No. 123 (Motipur to Mehsi)

All the approved locations are spread across north and south districts of Bihar which reflects balanced planning.

More DPRs Ready, Construction to Begin Soon

In addition to the 12 sanctioned sites, DPRs for 48 more Road Over Bridge in Bihar locations are ready and are expected to be cleared by next month. The planning for the remaining 112 is underway, making the full rollout of 223 bridges steadily achievable.

The Railway Ministry has already issued No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for all 223 locations under the Road Construction Department’s jurisdiction. Moreover, out of 259 level crossings managed by other departments, 236 have also received NOCs, clearing the path for rapid progress.

Construction of the first set of bridges is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025 and most of them are expected to be completed within 8 to 24 months, given there are no land acquisition delays.

Reducing Travel Time to Patna: The Vision

The main objective behind building these many Road Over Bridges in Bihar is to cut travel time to Patna from any corner of the state to under 3.5 hours. This plan was once seen as too ambitious. But, now it seems possible due to fast-tracked approvals and strong coordination among agencies.

Minister Nitin Nabin Welcomes the Move

Bihar’s Road Construction Minister Nitin Nabin expressed satisfaction over the Railway Ministry’s support. Speaking to the press, he said, “The Road Over Bridge in Bihar plan will end long delays at railway crossings. This is a step forward for public convenience and safety.”

He assured that the Bihar government would provide all technical and administrative assistance required to complete the projects within deadlines.
