Bihar-Jharkhand Highway Route
The new Bihar-Jharkhand highway will start from the Ekchari region of Bihar’s Bhagalpur district and connect to the Mahagama region of Jharkhand’s Godda district. This will be four-lane greenfield project spanning a total distance of 27.25 km.
Being a greenfield project means that a new highway will be made instead of just upgrading the existing roads. 14.3 km area of this Bihar-Jharkhand highway will fall in Bihar while the remaining will fall in Jharkhand. The projected time for completion of the highway is 2.5 years.
The estimated cost for the construction of this highway is ₹1006 crores. This will significantly benefit both the states by reducing the travel time and eliminating traffic jams in inter-state travel.
Land Acquisition in Banka and Bhagalpur Districts
The land acquisition is already in full swing, the government is focusing on land-clearance in the Banka district especially in Chandan and Katoria blocks. The Bihar government is quite committed on swift construction of the Bihar-Jharkhand highway and the land acquisition process is running smoothly.
The authorities have released official notification for 406 landowners from 7 villages in Banka district for a total area of around 40 hectares. The landowners were given an objection period of 21 days but most of them have accepted the offer. They will be given appropriate amount of compensation and provisions for proper resettlement.
Connectivity with Godda, Mahagama and Deoghar
The Bihar-Jharkhand Highway will work as an important link between Bihar’s Bhagalpur district and the Godda, Mahagama & Deoghar regions of Jharkhand. The Bihar government is planning on further integrating this four lane highway with the Mahagama-Hansdiha highway project which is already under construction.
The route for this Bihar-Jharkhand highway will also extend up to the Chaupa turn near Deoghar which further connects to the famous Baidyanath Dham in Jharkhand.
Benefits for Bhagalpur, Banka and Nearby Areas
The Bihar-Jharkhand highway will work as a boost for the local economy. Bhagalpur also known as the Silk City of Bihar is famous for its Tussar silk and other local products will benefit a lot from this. The Banka district will also benefit because a major portion of this Bihar-Jharkhand highway goes through its territory. This will help in increasing economic activities in the region whereas the Bhagalpur district will be more suitable for investments with the improvement in connectivity.
The areas in Jharkhand are going to benefit similarly, especially the Deoghar region which opens a direct pathway to Baba Dham also known as the Baidyanath dham. The Baidyanath dham temple is one among the 12 jyotirlinga temples and thus has a massive religious significance in Hinduism. It attracts a large number of devotees every year especially from Bihar, and thus, the Bihar-Jharkhand highway will turn out to be a boon for the people.
It will cut down the travel time between Bhagalpur and Deoghar to just 2 hours which is almost half of the current travel time. This will significantly increase the tourist footfall along with making the route more convenient.
Conclusion
The Bihar government in collaboration with the Jharkhand government is actively working on this project to enhance the travel experience of people in Bhagalpur, Godda, Deoghar and the nearby districts. With an estimated cost of ₹1006 crores, this project is expected to be completed in 2.5 years from the date of commencement.
