Construction to Start After Central Approval
Amresh Kumar, who is an Executive Engineer from NH Motihari Division told the media that a DPR has been submitted to the central government for approval. Once the funds are sanctioned, the work on the new Bihar four-lane highway project will be started without any further ado. The construction is expected to start from the 25th kilometre point near Bettiah in Bihar’s West Champaran district.
The final decision relating to the alignment for this new Bihar four-lane highway is still pending. The department has not approved it yet. Actually, there are two options for the alignment – first one is continuing the four-lane highway along the existing NH-727 and the second option is connecting it to the newly developing NH-139W near Manuapul Siyarosatti.
Route Through Lauriya and Chautarwa
As per the current plan, the new Bihar four-lane highway will pass through key areas like Lauriya and Chautarwa before ending in Bagaha. This route alignment was initially accepted in the project documentation. But, it could be changed further according to what the authorities think.
Two Major Gandak River Bridges Approved
According to the official data, the central government has approved the construction of two large bridges over the Gandak River. The first Bridge will be at Patjirwa in Bettiah and the other one will be in Bagha-1 (Malpulwa Eknamra Road) area. This bridge will connect directly to Belwania in Kushinagar district of UP. A separate DPR is being prepared for it.
The Patjirwa-Thakrahan bridge which is located near Bairiya will be part of NH-727AA. The total cost of this bridge is estimated to be at ₹3294.16 crore. It will be approximately 11 km long.
Boost for Travel, Tourism and Trade
The bridge has a very strategic location and it will help in connecting Bettiah in Bihar with Seorahi in Uttar Pradesh. Currently, people have to travel approximately 160 km between these two places but once the bridge becomes operational, the distance will be reduced to just 21 km! This will be very beneficial for people from both the states. This new Bihar four-lane highway is set to give an economic boost to Bihar and UP.
The upcoming Bihar four-lane highway will not only improve the connectivity but also give a major boost to tourism and trade as well. Faster travel and shorter route will be convenient for local commuters, tourists and businesses as well.
The reduction in travel time to Uttar Pradesh will further improve industrial coordination. Once both bridges and the main highway are complete, the western part of Bihar could emerge as a new growth hub.
Conclusion
The four-lane highway between Bettiah and Bagaha, with an investment of ₹4300 crore, can actually transform road connectivity in West Champaran. With additional bridges, the region will be ready for infrastructural growth.
Currently, the central government approved a massive amount of ₹33,000 for Bihar’s road projects. This is approximately one third of the central government’s total budget meant for roads. If you missed that report, you can access it here.
