Amit Shah’s Main Point on the Bihar SIR

HM Amit Shah declared that the Bihar SIR is a constitutional exercise which is necessary to ensure that only Indian citizens are able to vote in the elections. He also pointed that similar revisions have been carried out earlier during Nehru’s reign also.

He said that the opposition’s protest over voter list revision was due to their political tactics and vote bank. Shah also pointed to the past revision in 2003 to back Special Intensive Revision in 2025. He also stated that the opposition leaders have not filed any formal objection and the process was in accordance to the constitutional provisions. He attacked Rahul Gandhi asking who he was trying to protect by opposition the Bihar SIR.

Shah Highlights Developmental Work

Later, Amit Shah shifted his focus and talked about the development work done by NDA in Bihar. He gave the credit to both – the state and central government. He mentioned that in the past six visits by PM Narendra Modi, Bihar has been allocated around ₹83,000 crore for many developmental projects. Also, a national highway along with a railway line worth ₹474 crore is in under construction in Sitamarhi. A 140 km long road is being built on NH-31 from Khagaria-Purnia.

Appeal to Mithila identity

Amit Shah also talked about the promotion of Madhubani art in the Sitamarhi rally. He also highlighted the fact that PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the one who included Maithili in the Eight Schedule of the Indian constitution making it one of the 22 official languages of India. Continuning his speech, he added that recently Bihar Kokila Sharda Sinha ji was awarded the Padma Vibhushan posthumously. All this was to appeal to the Maithil audience.

Amit Shah on National Security

Amit Shah took the opportunity to highlight the national security achievements as well. He highlighted the strong governance strategy of NDA in reference to the recent response to terror attacks like Pulwama, Uri and Operation Sindoor. He contrasted it with the response by UPA government where terrorists escaped unpunished.

Conclusion

The Sitamarhi address made clear the BJP’s strategy: fold the Bihar SIR into a larger narrative of development, culture and security. That blending turns a technical electoral exercise into a political battleground. What this really means is the Bihar SIR will stay a headline issue as parties sharpen their arguments and voters decide which narrative they trust most.

Political observers are seeing this speech as an election pitch for the upcoming Bihar elections 2025. By connecting the Bihar SIR with Mithila pride, infrastructure growth, and national security policies, Amit Shah has hit the right spot to target the citizens of Bihar. He has positioned BJP leader NDA as the protectors of constitution, national security and regional culture.
