Bihar Rewards JP Senanis with Double Pension of ₹30,000 and 29 Cabinet Moves

The Bihar Cabinet has recently approved a decision that will double the monthly pensions of all political prisoners relating to the JP Movement and the Emergency period. JP Senanis’ Pension Doubled
In one powerful political and welfare move, the Bihar government has announced that the pensions given to the JP Senanis will be doubled. The political prisoners who spent more than six months in jail during the Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Narayan-led movement will now receive ₹30,000 per month. Earlier, they were getting ₹15,000. And the ones who were imprisoned for one to six months will be getting ₹15,000 instead of ₹7,500.
This pension is officially known as the Samman Pension which has been a symbol to respect their struggle. It will also value their democratic values demonstrated during the Emergency of 1975–77.
Who Are the JP Senanis?
The term JP Senanis refers to individuals who participated in the JP movement led by Jayaprakash Narayan, popularly called JP. The movement was against the Emergency imposed by the central government in the mid-1970s. They were imprisoned under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) or the Defence of India Rules (DIR). The JP Movement was started from Bihar and thus honouring them is a nice of creating awareness.
Cabinet Clears 29 Other Proposals
Apart from the pension hike for JP Senanis, the Bihar Cabinet’s August 13 meeting also approved 29 other proposals. Some of the important ones from them are as follows:
1. Industrial Zones: Over 2,627 acres has been selected across five districts namely Begusarai, Siwan, Patna, Saharsa, and Madhepura to develop large scale industrial zones. The total cost is estimated to be more than ₹814 crore.
2. Textile Mill in Gaya Ji: by M/s Maa Prabhawati Textile will be investing ₹35.14 crore for the development of a private industrial area in Guraru.
3. Amritsar–Kolkata Industrial Corridor: Bihar cabinet also approved ₹416 crore for acquiring 1,300 acres of land in Gaya Ji’s Dobhi.
4. Airport Surveys : Airports Authority of India approved ₹290 crore for OLS surveys in Veerpur, Munger, Bhagalpur, Saharsa, Muzaffarpur, and Valmikinagar for the development of airports.
5. Gaya Ji Airport Runway Expansion: Bihar cabinet approved ₹137.37 crore for acquiring 18 acres of land and installing CAT-I lighting at the Gaya Ji Airport.
Industrial Zones Expansion in Detail
The Bihar government will be developing five new industrial zones in the following districts :
- Begusarai: 991 acres at Kusmaut village worth ₹351 crore has been selected.
- Patna: 500 acres in Bakhtiyarpur’s Saidpur worth ₹219 crore has been selected.
- Siwan: 167.34 acres in Atwa worth ₹113 crore has been selected.
- Saharsa: 420.62 acres in Balhar Arazi worth ₹88 crore has been selected.
- Madhepura: 548.87 acres worth ₹41.26 crore has been selected.
These projects will improve Bihar’s industrial base, create jobs, and boost the local economies.
