Bihar Cabinet Clears Accidental Death Scheme

The Bihar Cabinet on Tuesday approved the Bihar Businessmen Accident Death Scheme, 2025. It is introduced to support the families of non-corporate taxpayers who die in accidents. This basically includes traders, GST-registered small businesses, and entrepreneurs who contribute significantly to the state economy.

The ₹5 lakh ex-gratia aid will be especially for those where the deceased was either a Bihar resident or had a registered business in Bihar. The scheme was proposed by the Commercial Tax Department which later got approval by the Bihar cabinet during the lastest meeting.

Reward for BLOs and Supervisors

In another decision, the Bihar government also announced distributing one-time honorarium of ₹6,000 for each Booth Level Officer (BLO) and supervisor engaged in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the voter list. Nearly 86,000 people will benefit from this. The total amount sanctioned for this is ₹51.68 crore. There are 77,895 BLOs and 8,245 Supervisors who are handling the SIR process. This payment is expected to be seen as a token of appreciation for them and boost their morale.

Polytechnic Colleges to be Upgraded

The Bihar Cabinet also sanctioned ₹80 crore for the upgradation of polytechnic colleges in the state. The total amount will be used to install equipment and tech upgrades in 46 government polytechnic colleges in Bihar. The colleges will be modernized with workshops and labs under the Science, Technology, and Technical Education department.

The main aim it to make the technical education more practical and industry-relevant. It will be done by providing better tools and training infrastructure.

Irrigation Project Under Kosi Canal

This decision was the highlight of the meeting. The Bihar cabinet has approved ₹7,832.29 crore for expansion of the Western Kosi Canal Project. The project is expected to be completed by March 2029. This is one of the biggest allocations made by the Bihar Cabinet in recent times for the irrigation sector. It will benefit 36 blocks across Darbhanga and Madhubani districts in the long term as the region is agriculture-heavy.

New Road Projects Approved

Two major road projects were also launched by the Bihar government in the cabinet meeting. They come under the Ganga Path scheme. Both will be constructed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM). First one is the Munger (Safiyabad)–Bariyarpur–Ghorghat–Sultanganj stretch. The government has sanctioned ₹5,119 crore for the same. The other project is the Sultanganj–Bhagalpur–Sabour route for which ₹4,849 crore has been approved.
