Bihar Now Has 90,000 Polling Booths
The number of polling stations in Bihar has increased from 77,895 to 90,712, after the creation of new booths across the state. The Election Commission had made it mandatory that no polling booth should handle more than 1200 voters without special approval. So the Bihar government created new booths fulfill this condition before the upcoming Bihar elections. It will reduce overcrowding at the booths and make the boating process easier.
Most New Booths Created Within Existing Premises
Out of the total 12,817 booths, 12,479 were created in the same buildings which were already hosting polling booths. The rest were set up in the surrounding areas nearby. This ensures that the voters don’t have to go to unfamiliar places. The load on each boot is expected to drop which is very essential for conveniently conducting the upcoming Bihar elections.
District-Wise Booth List Shared To Political Parties
A detailed district-wise list of all the new polling stations has already been shared to all the registered political parties in Bihar. While the Special Intensive Revision is gradually nearing its end by 25 July, around 95% voters have already submitted the enumeration forms. Out of the 7.9 crore registered voters, only 41.64 lakh are still left, they have been flagged for removal if they don’t verify themselves on time. Out of these 40 lakh voters, some are deceased, duplicate entries or whose addresses couldn’t be verified.
Why This Booth Expansion Was Needed?
Overcrowding was a common problem at polling stations in Bihar. Voters had to wait in long queues for their turn which made it inconvenient for them. So, new booths have been added to reduce the waiting time and provide a better experience to the voters. This will also increase the voter turnout especially in the urban hotspots and rural interiors.
