Bihar State Games 2025: First-Ever Edition to Select National Players
Bihar State Games will be organised for the first time in the state’s history. Ravindran Shankaran, who is the Director General of Bihar State Sports Authority, announced that of full scale multi-sport event will be held in Bihar later this year. This announcement was made during a felicitation ceremony hosted by the Bihar Olympic Association at the Patliputra Sports Complex.
The Bihar State Games is expected to take place after the 2025 Bihar assembly Elections in November–December. They will serve as a selection platform for athletes who will represent Bihar at national level competitions.

Performance in State Games Will Decide National Selection
Until now, national level selections were often influenced by internal politics. But, with the introduction of an official platform, the selections will be based on performance and not connections. So, it is an golden opportunity for the athletes who aim to represent Bihar at the national level and India at international level. If you perform well in the Bihar State Games, you will be shortlisted for National Games as well.
At the felicitation ceremony held in Patliputra Sports Complex, Mr. Shankaran highlighted the need to rise above caste, religion and favoritism. He stated that the children of Bihar are working hard, and therefore, we must ensure transparent and fair selection process. Talented players will be given advance training opportunities as well.
Infrastructure Ready, Equipment Coming Soon
Sports Minister Surendra Mehta was also present at the gathering. He said that most of the districts in Bihar have functional sports grounds, now, the players are asking for quality sports equipments. He assured that all the necessary equipments will be distributed across the sports grounds in every district very soon.
He also informed that Sports Clubs are also being formed. Once they become operational, they will be provided with good quality equipments and advance training facilities. Such grassroot level initiatives are equally important as hosting large scale events like the Bihar State Games. This is to ensure that local talent also gets equal opportunities.
New Office for Bihar Olympic Association Inaugurated
In the felicitation ceremony, the new office of the Bihar Olympic Association was inaugurated at the Patliputra Sports Complex. Honorary Secretary Pradeep Kumar welcomed dignitaries and highlighted the need for all the sports associations to unite and contribute towards the success of the Bihar State Games.
Addressing the crowd he said, “We must work in co-ordination with the government to make Bihar a sports hub. The State Games are a long-awaited step in that direction,”
Khelo India Medalists Honored
The event was primarily held for felicitating the Khelo India Youth Games medal winners who belonged to Bihar. This year, Bihar has won 35 medals, out of which seven gold medals have been secured across various sports. Two athletes from Wushu and Pentathlon were named “Sportsman of the Year” for their outstanding performance.
