Bihar Supplementary Budget Worth ₹57,946 Cr Launched While Opposition Protested

Bihar Supplementary Budget Worth ₹57,946 Cr
On this Thursday, the Bihar Assembly passed the first Bihar supplementary budget for the financial year 2025–26. The session was flooded with protests and slogans by the opposition members but the budget was finally passed. Deputy CM and Finance Minister Samrat Chaudhary introduced the budget. It included recurring expenditures like salaries and pension. Also, major funds were allocated for new investments in education, welfare schemes, and infrastructure projects. An Appropriation Bill was also passed by the assembly to make the budget legal.
Education Sector Gets ₹12,095 Cr
The main focus in the Bihar supplementary budget is ₹12,095 crore for the education sector. The funds will be used for improving school infrastructure, textbooks, teacher support etc. Also the schemes like the Intermediate and Graduation Protsahan Yojana will be funded by it. The Bihar government is committed towards increasing the literacy rate and ultimately improving the HDI score.
₹10,194 Cr for Social Welfare and Pensions
The second highest portion was allotted for welfare schemes. A total of ₹10,194 crore was approved under the Bihar supplementary budget for old age pension, support for windows and differently abled. The amount will be sent in form of direct benefit transfer to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts.
₹36,169 Cr for Annual Schemes
A total of ₹36,169 crore from the Bihar supplementary budget was passed for annual schemes. It includes government salaries, central government’s schemes and state government’s developmental projects.
Out of the total amount, ₹5,876 crore will come from the central government. Next ₹11,384 crore from Bihar government. Also, ₹18,909 crore will be for state government’s schemes. So, the majority of funds are coming from Bihar government itself.
Funds For Infrastructure Projects
A portion of the Bihar supplementary budget also been released for infrastructural projects as well. ₹1,200 crore has been allocated for roads and bridge construction. ₹1,000 crore is approved for land acquisition in industrial zones. Next, ₹489.69 crore has been approved for airports at Raxaul, Darbhanga, and Birpur.
Also, ₹1,500 crore has been allocated for the CM’s Intermediate and Graduation Incentive Scheme. The scheme reward students per completing their higher secondary or undergraduate degree.
Funds For Health, Hygiene, and Farmers
While education and welfare schemes have gained the maximum funds. The Bihar supplementary budget also has some allocations for other sectors.
Out of the total budget, ₹150 crore is approved for Lohia Swachh Abhiyan (sanitation). Next, ₹100 crore was allotted for the Mukhyamantri Jan Arogya Yojana (public health) and lastly, ₹70 crore for giving subsidies to sugarcane farmers.
