Bihar is set to get the Patna Heritage Tunnel by 2027 – it is being regarded as India’s first dedicated museum-to-museum underground tunnel. The tunnel will start from Patna museum and connect to Bihar museum while passing via important locations such as Vidyapati Marg, Taramandal Crossing, Income Tax Golambar, and Patna Women’s College. This route will make it more accessible for visitors without congesting the surface roads.

The Patna Heritage will be the first of its kind dedicated to connect two important cultural icons. The unique aspect about the tunnel is that it will be constructed as an underground art gallery. The tunnel will have arrival and exit buildings as well. These buildings will include a ground floor, a first floor, and a three-level basement. And according to the initial project details, one of these basement levels will have parking facilities, where is the remaining two levels will host Museum related amenities such as a cafeteria and rest area for tourists. The convenience and comfort of the visitors is given utmost priority.

The Patna Heritage Tunnel will be designed with an artistic intent which will transform an ordinary passage into an engaging space. The visitors can enjoy historical and cultural artefacts which will be displayed in the tunnel. As per the available reports, Madhubani paintings will be the core element along with other art forms. It will soon serve as a cultural landmark and promote Bihar’s folk art.
