Bihar’s Cabinet has approved a massive amount of ₹883 crores for the construction of a grand Janki Janmabhoomi Mandir near Mata Sita’s birthplace in Bihar’s Sitamarhi district. It comes after Nitish Kumar unveiled the design for the temple. It mirrors Ayodhya’s Ram Janmabhoomi Mandir in architectural design. Approval for Mata Sita’s Temple in Sitamarhi
A high-level cabinet meeting was held on 1st July 2025. It was lead by Bihar’s Chief Minister Nitish Kumar. The proposal for development of the Janki Janmabhoomi Mandir was submitted by Bihar Tourism Department. The proposal was accepted and ₹883 crore have been sanctioned for the construction of the temple.
According to the plan, ₹137 crore will be used to renovate the existing Janki Janmabhoomi Mandir at Punaura Dham. The remaining ₹728 crore will be used for the construction of the new temple. The rest of the money will be used to maintain the temple over the next 10 years.
The foundation stone is expected to be laid in August 2025. Officials have already directed to begin on-ground preparations.
Ayodhya-Style Grandeur in Sitamarhi
Bihar’s Chief Minister expressed immense pride and called this as a step towards Bihar’s cultural resurgence. He said that the development of Punaura Dham and Janki Janmabhoomi Mandir will be carried out on the lines of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra in Ayodhya. He expressed enthusiasm for the project through his social media post soon after the cabinet decision.

- A parikrama path for devotees
- Modern display kiosks, cafeteria, rest zones
- A children’s play area

- Large-scale parking facilities for visitors
